In her inspiring, irreverent book You are a Badass, Jen Sincero tells the story of a memorable hike in the Utah badlands. The writer and her friends stumbled across a modern-day Tarzan in his late thirties who lived in a cave and sustained himself on deer and squirrels he caught with a home-made bow and arrow.

“He told us,” she relates, “very matter-of-factly that he found modern society unnecessarily complicated and misguided, so much so that he preferred to live on only what nature provided him. The thing that struck me more than the fact that he cut his hair with a sharp rock and probably wasn’t wearing any undies was that he was totally unapologetic. He wasn’t worrying about what he should be doing or what he was missing out on or what some chick from L.A. thought of his fancy crotch pelt. He was just happy being true to himself, in the moment, in the middle of nowhere.”

You may not aspire to live in a cave, but you do have a dream. Maybe it’s buried beneath a mountain of debts, habits or responsibilities, but it definitely exists. And the upcoming Aquarius New Moon (Monday, Feb. 4, 1:04 p.m. PST) wants to lure it out of hiding and infuse it with new life. We’ve already been experiencing  this energy since both the Sun and Mercury recently flew into free-thinking, progressive Aquarius. Now, as they converge with Luna at this New Moon, supported by a sextile from far-seeing, risk-taking Jupiter in Sagittarius, if we slow down long enough to tune in, we’ll feel the high-frequency vibrations magnetizing us toward the most authentic expression of our lives.

This New Moon coincides with the debut of the Yin Earth Pig. It’s a year that supports good sense, abundance, and enjoying the simple things in life (think of a happy pig playing in the mud). As Donna Stellhorn says in Chinese Astrology 2019 Year of the Earth Pig,“During a Yin year we seek peace because the year before was hard and the distant road ahead feels unstable and uncertain. The more you do this year to build your business, strengthen your relationships and expand your influence, the better prepared you will be for the future.”

But what if you don’t know where you’re headed? Or you sense that the foundation beneath you is crumbling? Whether you’re doubtful about your path or just need a shot of energy to fortify your vision, this Aquarius New Moon (and all planets in forward motion this month!) can help to propel you forward. Aquarius is connected to etheric nourishment (it’s not a water sign, as some believe), so this New Moon brings support from the invisible realm.

In Astro Feng Shui, I write about how Aquarius correlates with the Helpful People area of your home (to the right of the front door as you enter). If you’d like to ring in the New Moon properly, first clean and clear that area until it sparkles. Then get two white candles and a silver box (you can cover a small box with tin foil in a pinch), and cut a letter-size paper into three strips. Create an altar with the candles, preferably in silver candle holders, on either side of your box. As you light them,  think of three things you need clarity on or help with. Then write each of them down on a strip of paper. Begin with the words, “Thank you for…” as in, “Thank you for sending me the perfect person to help get my business organized.” Or, “Thank you for sending me a clear vision of where I’m headed.” Or, “Thank you for helping me forgive my father and move on.” Call on the angels and beings of the next realm, then read each petition out loud before putting it in the box. Sit quietly for a few moments and listen for any messages. Then blow out the candles and let go of all worries as you give it over to Spirit. Be attentive over the next two weeks for signs, dreams or promptings. Follow up on what’s offered, and trust you’re being guided in the right direction (no matter how exotic the destination.) Once each petition has been granted, be sure to remove it from the box; you can add a new one if desired. Here’s to all of us moving ahead on our true path!

“He wasn’t worrying what some chick from LA thought of his crotch pelt”! LOL. Thanks, Simone, I needed a laugh today. On a more serious note, my helpful people gua immediately to my right as I enter my home is a coat closet, 1/2 of which has a hot water heater and is used for storage of less used items, and the closet has sliding mirrored doors, further reflecting energy away from that area….that gua of my home is the bathroom, with the shower occupying the helpful people corner of that room. Any suggestions on how to work around that? Thanks and Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Glad you got a laugh from the post! That book is really funny as well as brilliant. Sounds like the closet is more in your Career gua if it’s just to the right of the front door, and the bathroom is your real Helpful People gua. Just be sure to keep it clean, toilet seat down, and use white towels if possible (white and silver are the HP colors). You could certainly do a small altar on your bathroom counter for the ritual, even if you don’t have space to leave it up after that. I hope things are going well for you! Cheers, S

Lol! Love the simple idea for ringing in the new moon. My living room is to the right of my front door. Thank you.

Thank you Simone! I can certainly feel the need to seek peace after the past two years. I am now curious to look further into understanding why Aquarius is not a water sign.

    Love.

You’re welcome, Fiona! Aquarius is an air sign, but because it’s associated with the Water Bearer, people think it’s a water sign. The liquid being poured is actually ether – a healing substance from above. Confusing, but I’m sure you’ll find more on it if you do a little research…
