Melanie Knecht and Trevor Hahn: The Dream Team

Melanie Knecht was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair – but she still manages to pursue her life-long love for camping. Trevor Hahn became blind five years ago after contracting glaucoma, but hasn’t let it stop him from scaling tall peaks. The adventurous Fort Collins, Colorado, duo met at an adaptive boxing class. And when they ran into each other again at an adaptive rock-climbing class, they began to suspect that kismet was at play.

Soon—thanks to her vision and his strength—they will trek to the top of a 14,000-foot mountain. “It just seemed like common sense,” Knecht told Good Morning America. “He’s the legs, I’m the eyes — boom! Together, we’re the dream team.” At the start of each hike, a friend lifts Knecht into a carrier on Hahn’s back. Then she gives him verbal directions to navigate the trail.

“It made me so happy to help someone experience what I’ve been able to experience my whole life,” Hahn told GMA. “The best part is being able to make her smile—that gives me purpose. If you want something bad enough, and you find the right people—who also want what you want—you can do anything.”

This is the right attitude for the upcoming Leo New Moon (July 31, 8:11 p.m. PDT) – open-hearted and open-minded. As the Sun joins the Moon in spirited Leo, they link up with companionable Venus, square devil-may-care Uranus and trine spirited Jupiter. There is an element of the unexpected in this combo that can be tricky – but also helps us break free of old ruts and begin again. Mercury turns direct just 45 minutes after this New Moon, giving the go-ahead to move ahead – as long as we don’t rush in too fast and stumble over our own feet!

All matters related to love and money (Venus) get a shake-down at this New Moon. Excitement is in the air, but so is change. It’s essential to pay attention to what your heart is calling for now. Allow more love to flow between you and others. Extend yourself in a new direction, as an experiment. Who or what are you feeling attracted to? Over the next two weeks of the waxing Moon, you’ll have a chance to pursue – and hopefully attain – it. Despite any temporary bumps in the road this week, you’re entering a wonderfully expansive phase. So think outside the box and try something new. Connect with people who have what you lack and inspire you to greatness. You might even create a “dream team” of your own!

This is right on; I just registered for a screenwriting program and it’s my first foray. It feels scary and on point! New directions; new people; new challenges; new creative flow. Thanks, Patti
