Reinventing Ourselves

By Simone Butler

In 25 years of doing astrology, I have never seen a year as unpredictable as 2010. Systems are failing and people are freaking out. Earth changes are wreaking devastation. Yet all the while, new and improved forms are rising from the ashes. We are reinventing ourselves on every level - it's an exciting time to be alive! The changeable energies can be downright terrifying. Yet they enable us to throw off our false identities and become our authentic selves.

From Election Day, 2008 thru this August, chaotic Uranus opposes sensible Saturn. Uranus reflects the current destabilization of entrenched systems and panicked resistance to change--as well exhilarating breakthroughs and new beginnings. This energy will accelerate in June, as Uranus and Jupiter (which magnifies everything it touches) make a preliminary foray into Aries to square Pluto. This sets off a firestorm of change which culminates in 2011-12. Uranus and Pluto last tangled in the 1960s; a similar cultural revolution is at hand. Only this time the stakes are higher, as consciousness races to its evolutionary peak.

This summer's cardinal T-square between Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn and Pluto demands action. There will be no more passive waiting for change. People will begin to claim their rights, especially as Mars joins the fray in early August. Each of us will reach a decisive turning point in our personal life as well, reflected in the impacted areas of our chart. Our circumstances may change dramatically this summer--prepare for your life to take a quantum leap forward.

The electrifying March 15 New Moon (2:01 p.m. Pacific time) brings a preview of these coming changes. The reinvention process begins, as the Sun and Moon join shocking Uranus and clever Mercury in the intuitive sign of Pisces. We may have a psychic flash that awakens a dream, or a surprising experience that takes us in a new direction. We're also particularly attuned to others' suffering now. And, our own pain might feel more acute. Because Pisces is so watery and emotional, it's wise to stay connected to our bodies, honor our feelings and not allow our fears to run away with us.

Mars goes direct on March 10 (after being retrograde since December). During its sojourn through Leo, the warrior planet has been teaching us patience, courage and the limitations of going it alone. We've reached out to others and healed some old wounds within ourselves. Now we're finally able to see progress on seeds we planted last fall. By the Spring Equinox on March 20, when the Sun strides boldly into Aries, it will be easier to shake off any cobwebs of confusion and make things happen.

As we enter uncharted territory at this New Moon, we're upgrading our approach to life. Dare to express a latent part of yourself. Open your heart to others without taking on their pain. Stay grounded by breathing deeply. And, be alert to messages from Spirit or your higher consciousness that point you toward liberation--whatever form it may take.
