JUNE
THEME: BEAT THE DRUM
by Simone Butler
We're approaching the Summer Solstice, a time of powerful manifestation.
On June 21st, the longest day of the year, the Sun enters Cancer,
sign of roots, family and home. Cancer is Mother Earth; now we get
to enjoy the fruits of our labors from seasons past.
Summer Solstice is a time of community and planetary service; from
ancient days, people have celebrated it with all-night festivals
of drumming, dancing and feasting. This Solstice is extra potent,
as Mars (the warrior) lines up with Saturn (the taskmaster) in Leo,
while Jupiter (the truth-teller) in Scorpio squares them both. Many
of us will be making tough decisions and seeing big changes. This
especially applies to those with planets between 7 and 10 degrees
of Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio or Taurus (if you're born in 1945, 1954,
1958, 1961-62 or 1969, watch out!)
During Cancer, we learn to feed our deepest hungers. My Sun in Cancer
hungers for a peaceful home. Being tormented by noisy, disrespectful
neighbors has been a pattern for me. Pluto, Lord of Darkness, lives
in the home sector of my natal chart. Loud battles were common in
my family. My Leo father ruled with an iron fist. He'd blare the
TV late at night while I tried to sleep, ignoring my pleas for mercy.
Perhaps because I believed it was impossible, I've rarely found
serenity at home.
Pluto wants us to claim our power in whatever area he inhabits,
but doing so can present an enormous challenge. Once, I even resorted
to sorcery. The throbbing bass of my neighbor's stereo was rocking
the rafters of our duplex day and night. Sometimes he'd respond
to my request to turn it down, but the problem persisted. So I picked
up some "Do as I say" oil at Mama Roots Botanica. As instructed
by the shop owner, I lit a red candle every night for a week, rubbed
it with oil, and commanded the noise to stop. And it did! Suddenly,
it was eerily silent next door. My neighbor's stereo had died. But
my moment of triumph was all too brief-he soon went out and bought
an even more powerful system. My plan had backfired, because I had
not accessed my core belief and turned it around.
Four months ago, my landlady's son and daughter-in-law descended
upon the property we share, and have been camped out in their RV
ever since. Smoking, drinking and fighting are the order of the
day. But this time I'm determined to transform the belief that causes
me grief. "You could have 99 things going wrong in your life and
one thing going right," says Abraham,* "and if you would beat the
drum of that one thing going right, the other 99 would either have
to go away, or improve, because the Law of Attraction cannot abide
in your vibration something that does not match."
According to Abraham, if you don't have something you want, it's
because you aren't energetically aligned with it. Conversely, if
you have something in your life you don't want, it's because you
are in energetic alignment with it. Here's the formula for changing
your attraction: 1st) Get clarity about what you want; 2nd) Align
your energy with it, and 3rd) Commit to receiving it and it will
be yours.
Could you, like me, benefit from an attitude adjustment? Between
now and the Solstice is the perfect time for it: we're on Gemini's
turf, symbolic of the thinking mind. My strategy is to "beat the
drum" of what's working in my life and claim my space, within and
without. Then, by the time the Cancer energy kicks in, I'll have
manifested a happy, peaceful home.
