What are you fighting against right now?

If you’ve been sensing a “do or die” feeling in the air lately, you’re not alone. Our world is in a precarious place. A new U.N. report on the climate crisis just issued us a dire warning. From the precarious state of the oceans to coastal flooding and monster storms, the message is clear: If we don’t rapidly end fossil fuel use and halt global warming, the jig will soon be up for life on our planet.

But who wants to face the eventuality of a sixth mass extinction? It’s difficult to wrap your mind around it. Things still look “normal” in most places. Perhaps the science is wrong? Yet the undercurrents of impending change are growing stronger by the day.  And since any chaos in the outer world reflects what’s going on in the inner world, the next few years will be a turning point for us all. Whether exhilarating or terrifying (or both!), it’s the crucible we must pass through to get to the other side.

This Sunday’s Aries Full Moon (Oct. 13, 2:08 p.m. PDT) kindles a fire underneath us, as the Sun and Moon exactly square Pluto. Recently direct in Capricorn and gaining strength, the Great Destroyer wants to burn down the walls of business as usual. And also to dredge up old, toxic beliefs and behaviors so we can see and transform them. This process will intensify now that Saturn and Pluto are both direct, and it culminates as they make their fateful rendezvous in January. What that looks like remains to be seen, but it’s apt to be some kind of consolidation (Saturn) of power (Pluto) that acts as a game-changer for business – and life – on the planet.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Full Moon fires the opening salvo. The Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 20 Aries says it all: “A pugilist enters the ring.” Things are heating up, big-time. This is how my good friend, astrologer April Elliott Kent of Big Sky Astrology, puts it: “The collective social fabric – the Sun in Libra – is strained to tearing by the emerging needs of individuals (Moon in Aries); it’s time for a frank evaluation of what we’ve built together and whether it can survive.”

Luckily, the Aries Moon also receives an exact trine from Jupiter in optimistic Sagittarius. If we balance our needs with others’ in a way that honors a deeper truth (like the fact that we are all in this together), then this upcoming time can heal and renew us. This Full Moon reminds us we’re not doomed to repeat the past – in our private lives or the world at large. It urges us to find our fighting spirit, to defend what we hold dear, and to confront and overcome our own demons. Channel your righteous indignation in courageous, productive ways. The game isn’t over yet!

Thanks Simone, I have faith that collective action and human ingenuity will win out over greed and destruction, but it will be a tough fight to end such ingrained patterns. Looking forward to the Pluto/Saturn meet up in January….
