Lately I’ve been re-reading my 2001 travel journal, the account of a five-month road trip in which I visited earthen homes in six states and interviewed those who create and live in them. The goal of my journey was two-fold: to write a book on “living outside the box,” and to find my true home on the land.

Although I encountered some awesome places and people, my dream did not bear fruit. Ultimately I saw the reason why: I was needed in San Diego to help my grandmother, then my mother and father, make their transitions. But now there’s nothing keeping me here. It’s time to resurrect my dream. And luckily, the perfect Full Moon for the job is happening this week.

What’s your dream? You can use the magic of the upcoming Super Moon in Taurus (Friday Nov. 3, 10:23 p.m. PDT) to fire it up. Take advantage of this high-powered lunation to let go of whatever is standing in your way and move toward what you desire. The Full Moon occurs on the heels of Samhain (Oct. 31) and Day of the Dead (Nov. 1). During this week of great magic, ask yourself where you may be holding on too tightly to what you possess (Taurus). Then use the energy of the Sun and Jupiter in transformational Scorpio to release the old and make space for the new. This may require a descent into your emotional underworld, to move through personal grief or sadness related to what’s going on with our planet.

Here is a ritual adapted from my book Astro Feng Shui: Making Magic in Your Home and Life to help with this release-and-rebirth process. You will need a shovel or spade and a place to dig, an item that symbolizes what you’re releasing, a piece of paper on which you’ve written your intentions, and matches or a lighter. Do this ritual at night under the Full Moon, either in your backyard or a public place like a park (or even a graveyard if you dare!)

You’ll be letting go of something or someone to which you are attached – or even addicted. This could be a lover who isn’t good for you, a food or drink you think you can’t live without, or an old attitude about money that’s standing in the way of your dream. Decide what you are ready to sacrifice. When you’re clear, write it down. Dig a hole about a foot deep and sit next to it, with the item symbolic of what you’re releasing (such as a small bag of potato chips or a picture of your former flame) and the paper you’ve written on.

Call on your ancestors by speaking their names. Read what’s on your paper, then set it on fire and throw it into the hole. Add your symbolic item. (It may or may not burn; either way is fine).  Fill in the hole. Shed tears if you feel inspired to do so. Give thanks to Mother Earth for composting your offering, then raise your arms to the Full Moon and draw her power into your body. Whisper your dream to the Taurus Moon Mama, and thank her for revealing the path to making it come true. Then listen closely over the next few days for any action steps you need to take.

In my road journal, I’d mused that when you tune into the magical spirit of a place (Scorpio), it can inspire you to create something of beauty (Taurus). Wherever it turns out to be, I know that place of magic and beauty awaits me. May all of our dreams be blessed and empowered at this Full Moon!
