Most astrologers associate Jupiter with good things. When this expansive planet triggers your money sector, you can expect more financial flow. When it enters your romance sector, get ready to fall in love. Or so goes the traditional wisdom.

Observing peoples’ charts over the years has taught me that although transiting Jupiter does present us with opportunities, the outcome isn’t always what we’d imagined. A lot depends on the natal chart, and the person’s state of mind. I did witness a client meet the love of her life when Jupiter joined her Venus. Yet Jupiter can also bring expensive lessons. A musician friend once held a CD release concert when Jupiter was crossing his Neptune-Ascendant. Flying high on enthusiasm, he rented a hall that sat 2000 people. Only 200 bought tickets.

Jupiter rules luck. But what, exactly, does that mean? In a 2003 article in the Skeptical Inquirer, researcher Richard Wiseman states that in his experience, lucky people generate their own good fortune via four basic principles. “They are skilled at creating and noticing chance opportunities,” he says, “make lucky decisions by listening to their intuition, create self-fulfilling prophesies via positive expectations, and adopt a resilient attitude that transforms bad luck into good.”

We all have the opportunity to create some luck now that Jupiter is in Libra for a year. This transit can bring new relationships and enhance harmony and balance in existing ones (especially if it aspects your Venus or relationship points). At the Sept. 22 Equinox, the Sun also entered Libra, where it united with Jupiter on the 26th. This once-every-twelve-year party continues through the Libra New Moon (Friday, Sept. 30, 5:11 p.m. PDT), with Jupiter playing the jovial host. Now it’s time to focus on balancing our desire for independence with our need for connection, and to examine our beliefs about relationships and whether they are serving us.

It’s been a tough month, between the final Saturn-Neptune square (trying to separate truth from lies), Mercury retrograde muddling communications (it’s getting back into forward motion now), and Pluto stationary direct intensifying power struggles around the first presidential debate. The Jupiter-Libra New Moon offers us the great gift of hope. So raise a toast to this lucky influence, which plays out through mid-Oct. Reunite with those you care about and form new connections that uplift your spirits. As long as you don’t overindulge or fail to heed any significant red flags (always a danger with Jupiter involved), it could be your luckiest time of the year.

Dear Simone, Thanks as always for your blog. Last month you referred to lama Tsultrim and feeding the demon meditation. It was really helpful for me. So appreciate your energy and willingness to share.

So glad you’re enjoying the blogs and that the demon meditation was helpful, Michela. I need to do it again – have done it twice and it was amazingly powerful both times! Cheers, Simone
