If you saw the Sonoma Valley Regional Park last October after intense fires swept through, you’d hardly recognize it now. From charred blackness to a riot of beauty, the sky lupines, buttercups and other flowers are blooming aplenty thanks to reduced competition from annual grasses and increased nitrogen from post-fire ash. Something even more remarkable happened several years ago after a fire in the desert outside San Diego. Spring flowers appeared that hadn’t been seen in decades. It seems that hidden in the desert soil are seeds that can only be activated by intense heat, causing them to burst open. Through great trials, unexpected new life arises.

Do you recall a time when a real or metaphorical fire swept through your life, heating up your world to an unbearable degree? Maybe you’re even in such a phase right now. At some point there is no choice but to let go and allow the past to crumble away. And that’s when, through a mysterious alchemical process, things begin to shift. You’re gifted with new insight or motivation. A goal you’d despaired of reaching is suddenly within your grasp. No matter where you’re currently at, the upcoming New Moon will be your ally in embracing change.

The April 15 Aries New Moon (6:57 p.m. PDT) launches a fiery activation process. The Sun and Moon join in late degree Aries alongside Uranus,  as it wraps up its seven-year journey through that sign before entering Taurus (more on that next month). This is the final hurrah of an extended wake-up call that began with the Fukushima disaster (still wreaking havoc) and saw seismic shifts in modern culture such as a Trump presidency and the #Metoo movement. People are being galvanized into action. To add to the fiery momentum of this New Moon, Mercury turns direct in Aries the day before. This should make it easier to speak out, take action and know which way you’re headed over the next few weeks.

Taking the courageous Aries process to an even deeper level, Chiron leaps into the sign of the warrior the day after the New Moon. Through 2027, many of us will confront and heal old wounds around stepping forward into brave new territory. Chiron was last in Aries from 1968 to 1977. During this turbulent period, people threw off old shackles to begin new lives. Forged in fire, those born during this period are well suited to lead the charge as they experience their Chiron returns over the next nine years.

Things are heating up, no doubt. And the Uranus factor at the New Moon tells us that anything could happen. A quickening is at hand, and courageous action is required. The Mars-Saturn conjunction earlier this month got a lot of us committed to important work and on track for success. It’s time to let the past burn away and begin making your contribution. If you’re still seeking a jolt of awareness about your true purpose or next step, listen for messages around this New Moon, arriving with the clarity of a lightning bolt. Look to what you’re passionate about. Take a strategic risk. You never know what inner seed pods will get activated when you surrender to the fires of change and allow new life to blossom.

Thank you, Simone. Ah, an answer of my late 60’s and into the 70’s. They were healing and transforming years for sure!
