An exceptional Full Moon is nearly upon us, with the Moon in Taurus (the body) dynamically opposing the Sun in Scorpio (the soul). In the old days of goddess worship, this was considered the most magical Full Moon of the year – as it connects body and soul in a profoundly sensual way, enhancing personal power.

This Full Moon (Wed. Oct. 24, 9:45 a.m. PDT) magnifies the intensity of retrograde Venus in Scorpio, activating ancient, snaky healing energies that have been buried for a long time. However, it can also bring up memories of anger and abuse from this or previous lifetimes, so it’s important to stay grounded and centered. In addition, the Moon conjuncts electrifying Uranus in Taurus as they both oppose the Sun and Venus in Scorpio – which can ignite an unpredictable lightning rod of energy that’s capable of mayhem, but also of magic if you work with it consciously.

To help you avoid bouncing off the walls and get the true benefits of this Full Moon, I’ve created a special ritual to soothe and reconnect your (probably neglected) body and soul. This pleasurable ritual is inspired by the ancient healing science of Ayurveda, which I’ve been delving into lately.

For this ritual, which takes about ten minutes, you will mindfully dry-brush your body to detoxify your lymphatic system and slough off dead cells, then massage yourself lovingly with a pure oil. I’ve been doing this nightly (as well as attempting to eat for my Ayurvedic type), and my inner goddess is so pleased! I want that for you, too.

It’s best to do this ritual before bed, preferably on Oct. 23rd or the 24th. Take a warm bath before or after, to relax your body. Then you can slip into bed for an amazing night’s sleep. Just be sure to not use a phone, computer or TV afterward, because the blue light can interfere with your ability to fall asleep.

You will need:

A natural bristle brush (I use a long-handled one) or loofa

A natural oil like coconut, almond or sesame (you can warm the oil first if you like).

Optional: A natural soy candle or an essential oil diffuser with a relaxing scent like lavender or clary sage.

Speak the invocation below out loud before you begin; you can also repeat it after brushing and before oiling. Or record yourself saying it several times and play it back while you do the ritual. Note: The invocation is just for the Full Moon, and doesn’t need to be used in an ongoing practice of dry-brushing and self-massage.

Light the candle or turn on the scent diffuser, if using. Then, with the brush, begin slowly stroking your body in the direction of your heart. Start with your arms, using firm yet gentle strokes, then your chest (use a lighter touch here), back and lower body. When complete, massage each body part gently and lovingly to hydrate and soothe. Pay extra attention to your belly (the seat of goddess wisdom), your scalp and shoulders, which hold a lot of tension.

INVOCATION

At this Full Moon, I call forth a shift

Within my body, bestowing a gift.

With each stroke, I awaken my cells,

And let them absorb the truth I tell.

The ancient ways are alive once more!

And exist within me at my very core.

Let all old pain and fear fall away,

As I breathe in fresh energy upon this day.

Bring the courage I need to start anew,

And go forth in radiance for all to view.

Blow out the candle or turn off the diffuser, and slip in to bed feeling like the sensual goddess (or god) that you are!

The 24th is my birthday. I’m going to give this gift to myself. Rejuvenation (of my inner and outer self) is one of my goals. This sounds like a wonderful way to make progress toward a goal this is so hard to define yet so important to my well-being.
